Day 7, the final day of my week long chase vacation was also supposed to be the simple travel home day, but a slight risk across the Mississippi Valley with a northern extent to the I-72 corridor in Illinois meant I’d kind of chase on my way home.

Day 6 of a week long chase vacation featured an enhanced risk of severe weather along the Red River. A negatively tilted mid-level trough was ejecting into The Plains while at the surface, a low in the southern Texas Panhandle was forecast to migrate east along the Red River bringing upper 60s dewpoints into Southern Oklahoma.

Day 5 of a week long mini chase vacation started with a long drive overnight from Northeast Missouri back to Wichita, crashing at a hotel, then hopping back in the car to get to the target area which we believed would probably be in the Texas Panhandle.

The fourth day of a week long chase vacation featured a very marginal setup across Northern Missouri. SPC had outlined a slight risk which encompassed much of the middle and lower Mississippi Valleys. Our target for the day was the Kirksville area where some low 60°F dewpoints might sneak their way into the triple point. With a negatively tilted trough with a 50kt jet rotating through Missouri, this seemed like the place to be.

The third day of a week long chase trip featured a very broad moderate risk from the Storm Prediction center stretching from South Central Nebraska to the Red River. I spent the previous day re-visiting locations I shot photos from during the April 14, 2012 outbreak. That was an interesting experience, but I was anxious to get back on a storm.
